Simulated Emergency Exercise

During emergency or natural disasters Amateur Radio is often called upon to provide reliable communications as a public service.

Fifteen members of the Nanaimo Amateur Radio Association will be involved in a limited simulated emergency exercise scheduled from 1 pm until 4:30 pm on October 4, 2008.

This event is part of a North America-wide exercise in emergency communications. Its aim is to focus on the emergency
communications capability within the community and also to strengthen the relationship between the volunteer radio
amateurs, the municipality and the relief agencies.

It will involve the various Emergency Centres located within City of Nanaimo and will test new emergency communications procedures. Also participating will be the City of Nanaimo Fire and Rescue and the Salvation Army. Karen Lindsay, the City of Nanaimo Emergency Coordinator, will also be on hand. Members of the Mid Island Radio Association from Parksville will attend as observers.
